Having financial security is up to you. When you begin to get a paycheck or earn money on your own, start saving. Putting away a percentage each pay period or on a scheduled basis will help you be financially independent and able to handle unplanned expenses on your own. If you are married, do not plan on having equal access to all of your accounts shared with your partner. There are many friends and acquaintances I have known over the years who were totally surprised with a loved one died or disappeared and they did not know anything about the checking, investment or other accounts that they were putting money into and taking money out of. It was a surprise that required a lot of digging and frustration with passwords and legal documents to get money to buy groceries. Every woman should have her own money and it is up to you to make sure that it is there in your name only.
